Coastal Devon & Local Beaches

Whether you are a new resident in Newton Abbot, looking to move or one of the many whom already live here you will find Newton Abbot a central location to explore the magnificent South Devon coastline. Whether it’s by public transport, car, and bicycle or on your own two feet, there is a lot on offer across the generations.

Devon has 300 miles of beautiful coastline where you will find beaches of every description, both pebbled and of golden sand, for surfing, swimming, sailing, relaxing in the sun, or strolling along the cliffs coastal path, hunting for fossils or just building sandcastles. With breathtaking views, the Devon coast, which includes some of the most stunning seascapes in Britain, this includes the South West Coast Path and the World Heritage East Devon Jurassic Coast.

From the sandy expanses of Dawlish Warren, Teignmouth, and Shaldon, the beaches of the English Riviera, Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, or for those who wish to explore further a field the beaches tucked away in the South Hams.  You  even may wish to try your hand at fossil hunting and visit the Jurassic Coast, where you may be lucky and take home a fossil or two.

For those wanting to relax there is plenty to do from rock pooling and beach combing or just lounging on the beach with a good book and a picnic, but remember BE SMART

For those more adventurous you will find that high adventure water-based activities, including, sail boat racing, water- skiing, kite surfing and wreck diving

For the less energetic both young and not so young why not enjoy a spot of fishing from the beach, or a trip on a chartered fishing boat, which can be found at fishing ports around the coast.
