Joining the Library:
Anyone can join the Library for free by asking a member of the library staff. The only thing you will require is some ID as official proof (e.g. driving licence, utility bill) of your name and address.
Borrowing Allowance:
You can borrow 8 books and 4 recorded sound items and 4 DVDs (half this entitlement the first time you borrow or if you are a visitor) The Library staff will be happy to explain your entitlement when you join.
Books and spoken word may be borrowed for 21 days, and can be renewed.
Music and video items are hired on a weekly basis. Audiobooks are hired for three weeks ( Fees apply to these items).
You can return items to any Devon library, with the exception of items borrowed from mobile libraries which need to be returned to the mobile from which they were borrowed.

Teenage Flicks - NEW! Devon’s first teen book club was launched on Saturday, December 5 2009
A new book group specifically designed for teens has started the Library. It runs from 1.15pm and 2.15pm, and is aimed at local youngsters aged 11 to 16.
The group is not only about reviewing and discussing books, the club will also include debates about film, TV and music, author visits and creating a page of social networking sites for the club.
Creative writing workshops will also run regularly with the help of local teen-fiction author Luisa Playa.

Railway studies collection:
The Railway Studies Collection, which is held within the library was first opened in 1991 in recognition of the town's Railway heritage. The Railway Studies collection is manned by a Librarian on weekdays and volunteers on Saturdays.
The collection covers all aspects of Britain's Railways and contains materials of interest to railway and social historians, writer's modellers, researchers and people concerned with the contemporary scene. There is broad ranging material on the West Country Railways from the Great Western and London South Western/Southern periods up to the present day. Additionally there is an extensive amount of information on the remainder of the UK's railway network including imited dealings with railways in other countries.
The collection provides information on standard gauge railways, broad gauge, narrow gauge, industrial Lines, miniature railways, underground railways and preserved railways.
Information is available in various froms such as books, pamphlets, timetables, photographs, post cards, slides, drawings, maps, magazines and videos.
The reference only collection is open to the public on :-

* Thursdays 10am to 1pm
* Saturdays 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm
